During the process of shooting, my associates & I stayed in trailer parks near the prisons & talked to as many people as we could. We met transient construction workers, relatives of inmates, retirees who lived in their RVs, and even a few correctional officers. I documented the rural communities which house many correctional institutions, as well as the urban environments where many of the inmates I met came from. In both places, most everyone I talked to was connected to the prison either personally or economically.
